This chart shows that an Olentangy education costs property owners less in terms of millage than many other Central Ohio school districts.

It is important to note that many districts in Olentangy’s local comparison group put operating levies on the ballot on a regular basis. For example, Hilliard and Gahanna will also be going to voters in May, while Delaware, Pickerington, and Upper Arlington are planning issues for later this year. In addition, the Worthington, Dublin, New Albany, and Westerville school districts are discussing putting tax measures on the ballot in 2012.

School Funding

82% of Olentangy’s funding comes from local property taxes.  Only 15% comes from the state, compared to 44% for the average Ohio school district.  This is primarily because the state considers Olentangy to be a wealthy school district, based on our median income and property values.

Enrollment

The phenomenal growth of Olentangy schools over the past 10 years is virtually unprecedented in Ohio.  In 2000, Olentangy had 5,166 students district wide.  By 2010, that number had increased by almost 10,000 students, to 15,089.

Olentangy’s enrollment increases by an average of more than 900 students each year.  Even with the economic slowdown, our growth continues, often cited as being due to Olentangy’s exceptional product and value.

In 2010, Olentangy graduated 822 seniors from our three high schools.  By contrast, the total number of 1st graders in the district in 2010 was 1480.  Every entering 1st grade class is larger than the one before it, which highlights our tremendous growth.

Below is a chart showing historical and projected enrollment.

Performance Index

The Performance Index (PI) reflects the achievement of every student enrolled for the full academic year.  The PI is a weighted average that includes all tested subjects and grades and untested students.  The greatest weight is given to advanced scores (1.2); the weights decrease for each performance level and a weight of zero is given to untested students.  This results in a scale from 0 to 120 points.  (explanation per the Report Card)
